For Fate, I would go with the DiffGen number, with a minus 2 or 3 mod. Minus 2 produces -1 to 8, minus 3 produces -2 to 7, so neither is completely perfect with the Fate Ladder, but I would say both are reasonable.

Minus 2 makes the average difficulties 3 and 4, which seems like it fits for a 'fair' random selection! How many cards are there per page in the pdf? And are they laid out so they're simple to print at home? I just saw the instruction cards, are these like them? Looks good and simple for printing.

I tried to make it as easy as possible! There are six cards per page, and there are both full color and low ink versions. Printing back to back may or may not be possible, depending on your printer, but the files should work for it if you can. All variations of these look well-designed, but… what's the point of using these cards at all? Unless there would be tens of thousands at very least of them, it's just a pick from a tiny subset of combinations in a random generator's output.

Not even funny. It follows that the generator itself would allow many orders of magnitude more results. See more immediately calculate or look up derivative results. That's before adding built-in flexibility and forms to make it user-friendly e. There are certainly tons of ways to randomize data, for sure, and there are some great tables on DTRPG! But the GMA decks have a lot more than results there are 60 physical cards, but there is data on each side, so it's options, not 60 if you are looking for detailed output!

The wide array of possible uses is helpful in these cases, since you can do a whole game with just the cards not that you can't combine them with still more tools, too. One major positive I love them for, and that people talk about when they review the cards, is that they don't have to switch between tables to find different things. And if you're looking for a high number of options from one given use-case, I still think the GMA decks acquit themselves quite well.

And if she smells like [The pungent aroma of skunk Another feature is that the GMA cards make it easy to make a table that outputs results. If you look at the tag symbols the line of orbs with icons across the middle--not counting the directional scatter arrow on the far right , those are a choose-3 array, so there are possible combinations of symbols and all are present on the cards.

If you make a table using those icons as the left-hand column, you can fill it in with 10, say, types of treasure.

Copper coins, silver, gold, gems, etc. Then you draw a card, and use the three table entries associated with the symbols you drew, giving you unique combinations in the time it took to come up with 10 options and if you put a set of variables in each row, then it can get even more versatile!

And there are dozens of other ways to use the cards; if you want to see some suggestions and examples, my free solo engine ALONe goes into much more detail, as does the instruction manual for the cards themselves. Let me know if you have any questions I can answer! That's a bit weird, but works assuming they are non-repeating , of course.

Names and clothes are just not the best thing to fix outside constraints of a small setting or a single region in big setting. Though the only practical difference is that "manual" table lookups are much faster when the indices are both familiar and ordered, vs. I suppose everyone is used to different things, but drawing one card per variable feels just like rolling one die per variable, or drawing one Tarot card per variable, etc, to me--though you can always draw just one card and then use however many fields you want to from it.

There's no wrong way to use them! And while I think you may have misunderstood what the tag symbols are the 'squiggly things with hooks' sound like the Norse Runes, while the Tag Symbols are pretty much readable as they are: Sword, shield, target, heart, skull, etc , if you find them too roundabout to use as a table lookup, you can always just interpret them thematically.

Sword indicates combat, Skull indicates poison or disease, Heart could be health or love, and so on, which is why the ability to interpret them in different combos is so valuable.

But then, if you find the cards too confusing or slow to use, then no worries! I'm the first to admit I over-engineered the heck out of 'em. The goal is to provide as much See more info as possible in a small package, whether its for GMs on the fly who want to create content in the middle of an encounter, or travelers who can't roll a bag of dice and browse a dozen books on the bus or plane while they commute.

My point is, any key not ordered in an immediately recognizable way like numbers or letters are is inconvenient for "manual" table use, because it's going to be non-ordered "move finger until you meet it" search, rather than "alphabetic" binary search, every time. Whether 5 or 6 , or even Greek letters for most people. Runes and wingdings sometimes have their uses, of course, it's a fun option to have them around though if the campaign isn't Norse related, why Norse runes? Something like Rune Generator from ChaoticShiny with more "suggested shapes" would add variety , but using them as a table index isn't the best idea.

TBeholder Your observations on these cards is definitely missing the whole point. Why are you even on this site? I personally have absolutely zero, and I will repeat ZERO interest in playing a tabletop rpg while having to use an excel spreadsheet on a laptop or tablet.

Just like with computers, See more you can play a sports video game or computer simulator there too. But I love doing it old-school, turning off the damn computer and putting my phone on silent and play my games pen-and-paper style. Myself, I have used these decks, just as they are, for story seeds, playing RPGs co-op with my girlfriend or even without a set of RPG rules, the cards work just as effectively , outlining an adventure to use at a later date with my gaming group, and with my novel writing.

Try to do that on excel! So in conclusion, if you prefer your spreadsheets and drop down lists and pivot tables and chaotic shiny generators, then man have at it. Nathan, please keep making these great products and avoid the nay-sayers, I really appreciate all your efforts at making great, incredibly useful products and will keep supporting your efforts!

Kevin Thanks, and I certainly will keep up my design efforts! I'm sure TBeholder isn't the only person who isn't going to be interested in the GMA decks, and that's fine--they are complex and have multiple systems that take some learning to dive into, and if they don't work for someone, I don't take offence. Critical feedback is still useful!

Nathan R, I love the way you explain the number of outcomes, I love that its a Manual-Analog way to generate randomness in the go, for those who like to play on the go, or don't have the resources to get all those spreadsheet with dauntingly large tables TBeholder C your comment push me over the edge to buy this product.

Hi Nathan I'm almost certain I saw an "easy-to-read" version of the base deck, for black and white printing. But I've consulted my Dropbox folder, and my DriveThru library, and I'm not spotting the file anywhere.

Is there ANY chance of you adding the easy-to-read deck to the downloads section? That would make life so much easier! Thanks a ton for your brilliant work! Ignore my previous message! I found them! They've been there all along! I simply overlooked them! No worries! There is definitely overlap, though the Fantasy deck is one of the most different. Christopher H. I can see using your example card above finding "Synthetics beneath torn skin" or "The pinpricks of an automedic" being found in a supers game! The names might be a little wonky, though Are you working on anymore GMA decks? Perhaps a Supers based one?

I just wanted to say that I saw a youtube video about these cards and, on the strength of that, the great reviews here, and your personal message, which is thoughtful and appropriate, I bought this and all the rest of your products on DrivethruRPG physical and pdf. You're doing great work that's a tremendous help to gamers at any time but especially now.

It's hard for my friends and I to get together even without a pandemic, so solo RPGing is something I'm really looking into. Plus I enjoy just crafting adventures even if no-one ever plays them. It's a fun creative pursuit for me. Someone wanted to kill Fanry. Someone wanted to ruin the future of the entire planet of Pijal. And this someone also wanted to make damn good and sure to hurt Averross at the same time. She wants to make this personal, Force knows why.

Well, if Azucca wanted a grudge match, she could have one. Averross bit back his irritation. Current visibility: Friends-only. This item will only be visible in searches to you, your friends, and admins. Description Discussions 0 Comments 1 Change Notes.
